9mm Pinfire Cartridge
| Size: 9mm Headstamp: [Biscione swallowing a child] Manufacturer: Archidioecesis Mediolanensis - Milano, Italy Additional Info: Historically the image of a biscione swallowing a child on the headstamp was used as the Coat of arms of the House of Visconti, which was the noble families who ruled much of Italy during the Middle Ages. In modern times the symbol is associated with the Archbishop of Milan where this variation of this symbol is carved in a relief on the Archbishops palace in Piazza Duomo, in Milan, Italy. With the research I have done and providence of the cartridge I believe it to be made for the guards at or someone involved with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milan. Based on the age of the cartridge is would have been been under one of these archbishops rule: Bartolomeo Carlo Romilli (1847-1859) Paolo Angelo Ballerini (1859-1867) Luigi Nazari di Calabiana (1867-1893) |
